Working in Edmonton — Light, Weather, Spaces

alt=""

Edmonton offers prairie sun, dramatic winter light, wind that shows up uninvited, and interiors that range from candlelit halls to modern glass.

Our approach is simple: shape light quietly so skin looks flattering and true to the scene, keep colours honest, and protect the feeling of the room.

We won’t promise “perfect” skin in every church or hall; mixed lighting has a character of its own—and we balance it tastefully rather than bleaching it away.

The Guardian Method (how we protect your once-in-a-lifetime day)

  • Timeline architecture — We design a schedule that breathes: buffers between locations, a clear order for portraits, and room for the moments you actually came to live.

  • Two-photographer choreography — Morning prep in two places, vows from complementary angles, one eye on the big story while the other waits for the small, human things.

  • VIP family protocol — We build your list in advance, seat grandparents first, call groups kindly in order, and finish before anyone fades.

  • Communication & calm — A pre-wedding call aligns priorities; on the day, we guide with quiet cues and keep rooms feeling like themselves.

  • Lighting contingency — Fast primes, gentle bounce, subtle off-camera light when needed; outdoors we work with the weather rather than fighting it.

  • File safety & paperwork — Dual-card capture, mirrored backups, 3-year archive, and COI available on request for your venue.

Editing Ethos — Clean, Timeless Colour

  • We avoid trendy filters that date in a season. Our editing keeps colour true, contrast elegant, and skin natural-looking under the light that was really there. If a room is warm and golden, it will feel warm and golden—refined, not flat.

For First-Time Planners (most couples)

  • If this is your first time hiring a wedding photographer, it can feel like a lot. We’ll walk you through what matters, cut the noise, and give you a clear map—from prep through reception—so you can relax into the day.

Family & Chosen Family (our promise)

  • Portraits of your family—and the family you’ve chosen—are part of your history. We reserve time for these groups, keep the process kind and efficient, and make sure the people who raised, loved, and championed you are in the frame.

How Your Day Flows

  • Morning — We split between partners; calm rooms, small adjustments, real moments.

  • First look & portraits — Flattering light, clean backgrounds, a few clear cues; you stay yourselves, we do the noticing.

  • Ceremony — Discreet movement; one lens holds the arc, the other waits for touch, breath, and reaction.

  • Family photos — Names set in advance, grandparents first, everyone home sooner.

  • Reception — Speeches lit to flatter; then we melt into the crowd for dance-floor candids that feel alive.

FAQs

Yes—tell us ceremony time and reception end; we’ll map a start-to-finish plan with simple add-on options (weekday dates may qualify for a 10% Weekday Advantage).

Yes—two photographers are standard, so parallel moments are covered without pulling you in two directions.

Plan on roughly 60–100 photographs per hour. With two photographers in Edmonton, we cover parallel moments without flooding you with repeats—the final gallery is curated and balanced, not just “everything we shot.”

Typical ranges:

  • 3 hours: ~150–300 images

  • 6 hours: ~400–600 images

  • 10 hours: ~600–1,100 images

How we build the edit (Edmonton realities):

  • Seasonal daylight here can be long (summer) or brief (winter), so we prioritise variety over volume—river-valley portraits, ceremony emotion, family, and candid reception energy.

  • We remove tests and near-dupes, keep the cleanest, most honest frames, and include colour + black-and-white where it elevates the moment.

  • Larger guest counts, church services with restrictions, and lively dance floors often push the count up—always within a gallery that flows.

We work with fast lenses and discreet lighting to keep skin flattering and colour honest; when light is mixed, we balance it thoughtfully while preserving the room’s character.

Sneak peeks in ~1 week; full gallery in 5–8 weeks depending on the season; images are archived for 3 years.

Yes—COI available on request; we handle the paperwork ahead of time.

Yes. We plan for it and still create clean, elegant images. In Edmonton, the standard that works best is clear signage plus a brief announcement from the officiant right before the processional. We’ll coordinate with your officiant and venue so aisles stay clear during key moments.

Details

Semi-Unplugged (most popular): Phones away for the processional, vows, first kiss; a guest photo moment right after the recessional, then devices away again.

Signage that works

Phones down during our ceremony, please. We’ll invite a photo moment right after the kiss!

Officiant announcement

“Before we begin, the couple kindly asks that you put phones away and remain seated so everyone can enjoy the ceremony. There will be a moment for personal photos right after the recessional. Thank you for being fully present.”

How we handle it on the day:
Two photographers = one covers the main angle while the other anticipates obstructions and works alternate viewpoints. We coordinate with the officiant/venue so the processional, vows, and first kiss stay clear.
